I have just purchased a Canon EF 2x III Extender to use with a Canon EOS 1DX Mk II and a Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lens, which I believe should both be compatible. The lens and camera work perfectly without the extender added. However when I add the extender and then look in the viewfinder, all you can see is a circular image (which moves Sticking a 400mm lens on an EF 1.4x Extender and adding an APS-C (1.61x) camera to it will give you an astounding 900mm+ lens at a fraction of the cost of anything in a similar range. The benefit is that you're getting a powerful zoom without the exorbitant costs associated with a dedicated super-telephoto lens.

My subject, the Moon, utilizing a Canon 5Dsr, Canon EF 100-400 f4.5-5.6L IS II USM, EF 2x III & a 1/6 Crop Factor, producing a theoretical 1280 mm. Yes, it reduced the f-stop to f11, exactly what I wanted, yes, I lost auto focus, intended manual focus anyway by utilizing built in digital zoom and manually focusing and backing out.
R5 with EF 100-400 is ii and 2x extender. Did a quick test with this setup today and was happy with the results. EF 100-400 is ii and 2x multiplier, tested just at 800mm. A few things I noticed. If it’s on a tripod and IS is on it will blur the picture. I know it’s common practice to turn IS off when on a tripod but this is the first time I 600/800MM lenses vs RF 2x Extender for Kenya Safari in EF & RF Lenses 12-06-2023; Extender EF 1.4x compatibility with Mount Adapter EF-EOS R in Camera Accessories 12-05-2023; EOS Rebel T3 RF lens compatibility in EF & RF Lenses 12-04-2023; R7 auto-iso on viewfinder display with flash in EOS DSLR & Mirrorless Cameras 12-03-2023 In general 2X teleconverters and extenders are only recommended for f/2.8 or faster lenses. Some bodies (most of the 1D series, the 5D Mark III, and the 7D Mark II) can use the center AF point with f/8 lens/extender combinations. But the narrower PDAF baseline of the APS-C cameras makes this much more difficult than for their full frame t4sEy.
